bitterscene
is an 'indie'pendent club night which usually takes place on the last Wednesday of the month in the Bassment Club, Chelmsford.
Our dj's play
classic & new 'real' indie tunes, C86/Sarah, french pop / bubblegum / northern soul / 60's beats & garage, and a splash of punk. We've been at it since 2001 and have had some excellent bands play for us during that time, including: Vic Godard & Subway Sect, The Broken Family Band, The Long Blondes, Holly Golightly .... check out our live archive. bitterscene is also an indie record label. The second single by The Brights is currently available for mail order and now by download. Go to our label page to find out more. |

We offer you an eclectic night at bitterscene .... it's taken a while, but we've finally managed to get Shrag to come and lose their bitterscene virginity. Hailing from Brighton, 3 girls and 2 boys Shrag are the new darlings of the Art Rock scene. So the story goes, they met at the top of a tall building called Sussex Heights and they often ended being the five people left when everyone had left the party and would draw pictures to amuse each other. Somehow they ended up putting on exhibitions of the drawings and became known as Sussex Heights Roving Artists Group i.e SHRAG. As for the music well the Guardian loved their latest single 'Lost Dog/ Different Glue' on WIAIWYA records. Their sound is a bit hard to define, just think Fall with post punk elements to it.

All the way from Norwich we welcome back the infinitely enigmatic Fuck Dress. They make their 2nd visit to the scene as they release their debut single Suburban Nietzsche Freak - 7" Ltd Edt Silver/Grey (250 Only) on the excellent NROne records (home to the Brownies, Violet Violet).
Once seen, never forgotten. |
